Art on a Postcard
UPDATE: Further to our cancellation of today’s event we have now been in discussions with Holywells Park and have taken the decision to postpone the event for tomorrow as well. The reason for this is that the park keepers need to get in at 7.30am to check what kind of damage has been caused by the high winds from today and they don’t know how long that will take. We need a few hours at least to set up the event and it is quite likely that we will not be able to get into the park in time to set up, even if the park is deemed safe to open later in the morning.
We have arranged with the park to now hold the event on Saturday 26th February with the same timings – 10am until 4pm – so that you can come and view the artwork that is for sale before bidding if you want to. Hopefully this will go ahead as planned!
As a school that likes to have an emphasis on art, we thought we would hold an inclusive event for both the children and the public where we will be auctioning off ‘art on a postcard’ by professional artists as well as the children and some well known faces! We are holding the postcard auction in February 2022, with a preview event beforehand. The postcard sized artworks will be small original works on any media of the artist’s choosing.
The preview of the postcards will be held in the Orangery in Holywells Park in Ipswich. You can come and view the postcards from 3-5pm on Friday 18th February and 10am – 4pm on Saturday 19th February. The children’s postcards that are not going into the auction will be available to buy at the preview. There will be some refreshments available. This will be a good opportunity to have a look at the postcards to see which one/s you would like to bid on.
The online auction will be on this website and will run from Friday 18th February until 10pm on Friday 4th March.
We would love to raise some extra funds to replace the old playground equipment, in addition to other items that we really need to enhance the physical, educational and mental wellbeing of the children and we are very excited to use this auction to help with that. The equipment for the playground is going to cost anywhere between £20k and £40k as we need a whole new safe and secure base as well as the equipment. It is going to take a while to raise this sort of money so we really need your help!
If you would like to be involved as an artist (or ‘celebrity’) then just to let you know that we have now closed the submission process. If you have already said that you will send in a postcard then we look forward to receiving it before 4th February if possible. Otherwise we now need time to collate them and add them to this website. We can then promote them until they go up for auction for a week to give people lots of time to get their bids in.
We have some fantastic artists and well known people who have kindly agreed to donate a postcard sized original artwork and look forward to sharing those with you.
The children have also been creating their artwork in school with the help of Mrs Hughes, the school art leader. Some of these will go in to the auction (they will all be available to buy but we only have capacity for some of them to be auctioned off!) and we are excited to see what they come up with!
Once all of the artwork is in we will let you know who has donated so that you can plan your bids!
